The thick-billed green pigeon is a stocky fruit pigeon about 25–31 cm long. Its heavy pale bill has a strongly curved tip and red base, while the body is predominantly green with a grey crown and maroon shoulders in males. Females lack much of the maroon. A green eye-ring, patterned undertail and thick bill help separate it from other green pigeons feeding in the same fruiting trees (Wikipedia, general species account).
It ranges from the Himalayan foothills through mainland Southeast Asia to the Greater Sundas and western Philippines, using lowland and foothill evergreen forest, edges and wooded country. Flocks feed quietly in the canopy, swallowing figs and other small fruit whole and moving locally as trees ripen. Like other pigeons it builds a sparse twig platform, generally in a tree or dense vine, and lays two white eggs tended by both parents (Wikipedia, general species account).
