The green imperial pigeon is a large, heavy-bodied canopy pigeon about 40–47 cm long. Adults combine a pale grey head and underparts with deep maroon undertail coverts and glossy bronze-green wings, back and tail. The sexes are similar, although females may appear slightly duller. Its substantial size, broad wings and contrasting grey body and metallic upperparts make it conspicuous when it crosses openings between forested hills (Wikipedia, general species account).

Its broad range extends from South Asia through southern China and mainland Southeast Asia to the Philippines and Indonesia; Vietnamese birds belong principally to the mainland form. It occupies lowland and hill forest, mangroves, wooded islands and other country retaining mature fruiting trees. Individuals or flocks feed high in the canopy on fruit, berries and figs. A simple twig platform is built in a tree and normally holds one white egg (Wikipedia, general species account).
