The ashy-headed green pigeon is a compact arboreal pigeon with predominantly green plumage. Males show an ashy-grey head, yellowish-green neck and underparts and a maroon shoulder patch, while females are more uniformly green and lack the strong shoulder colour. It was formerly grouped within the pompadour green-pigeon complex, so older references may use a broader species name. Its direct, rapid flight is typical of the genus (Wikipedia, general species account).
It ranges from Nepal and northeastern India through Bangladesh, Myanmar and southern China to Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Birds inhabit forest, forest edge and wooded country, usually remaining in the canopy and gathering singly, in pairs or in small groups at fruiting trees. They swallow berries and other small fruit whole and also take seeds. A sparse platform of twigs supports the usual clutch of two white eggs (Wikipedia, general species account).
