The pink-necked green pigeon is a medium-sized pigeon about 25–30 cm long. The male has a grey head, pink neck and upper breast, orange lower breast and green body; the female is largely green with a yellowish belly. Both sexes have dark wings edged yellow, a grey tail and colourful feet and eye-rings. Only the male carries the species' striking pink neck, making the sexes easy to separate (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is widespread in Southeast Asia, from southern Myanmar and Vietnam through the Malay Peninsula to Indonesia and the Philippines. Adaptable birds use forest edge, secondary woodland, plantations, gardens and cities wherever fruiting trees remain. Flocks feed in the canopy, particularly on figs, and disperse swallowed seeds. A pair constructs a flimsy twig platform in a tree, shrub or hedge; both adults incubate the two white eggs and feed the chicks (Wikipedia, general species account).
