The orange-breasted green pigeon is a small fruit pigeon about 26–28 cm long. Both sexes have a blue-grey nape, yellow-green crown, bronzed upper-tail coverts and rufous undertail. The male shows a narrow pinkish-lilac band above a broader orange breast band, whereas the female has a bright yellow breast. Unlike several similar green pigeons, it lacks a maroon patch on the wing (Wikipedia, general species account).
It occurs across tropical Asia south of the Himalayas, from the Indian subcontinent through mainland Southeast Asia. The species favours lowland forest, forest edge and other well-wooded country. Pairs and small flocks move quietly through fruiting trees, feeding slowly on berries and small fruit and often remaining hidden among foliage. Its nest is a thin twig platform placed in a tree, on which two white eggs are normally laid (Wikipedia, general species account).
