The pin-tailed green pigeon is a slender pigeon weighing 185–255 g; males measure 32–36 cm and females about 28 cm. It is yellow-green with dark green wing coverts, black flight feathers and elongated blue-grey central tail feathers. Males have a golden breast washed pink, while females are duller and shorter-tailed. A blue eye-ring, bluish bill with pale tip, chestnut undertail and pink-red feet complete its colourful appearance (Wikipedia, general species account).
It ranges from the Himalayan foothills through southern China and mainland Southeast Asia, occupying secondary growth, foothill forest and evergreen rainforest from sea level to about 1,800 metres. Birds are resident or locally nomadic, tracking seasonal crops of fruit and berries in the canopy. In central Vietnam they may descend to lower elevations during the dry season when suitable trees are fruiting, sometimes joining other green pigeons at concentrated food sources (Wikipedia, general species account).
