Acridotheres burmannicus
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
The Burmese myna (Acridotheres burmannicus) is a species of starling in the family Sturnidae. It is found in Myanmar and Yunnan, China. Taxonomy The Burmese myna was considered conspecific with the vinous-breasted myna. Common names of the two split species were changed to "mynas" instead of "starlings" to match the genus. Acridotheres burmannicus is the scientific name used in the project list. (Wikipedia, general species account).
Starlings are social, strong-legged passerines that forage in trees and on the ground. Their diets commonly combine fruit and invertebrates, with some species also exploiting farmland or settlements. Many gather in flocks outside the breeding season and nest in cavities. These are family-level traits rather than precise local measurements, so the species account above should guide identification and range (general Sturnidae ecology).
