Ateuchosaurus chinensis
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Recorded from Vietnam; see species account for evidence limits
Ateuchosaurus chinensis (Ateuchosaurus chinensis) is a lizard recorded for Vietnam in the project inventory. Its supporting occurrence note is “Expert range list”. The exact scientific name is retained because many Vietnamese geckos and skinks are recently described, geographically restricted or difficult to distinguish from close relatives. This profile therefore separates confirmed identity and occurrence from broader ecological context instead of inventing unsupported locality, size or breeding details (project species data; Reptile Database taxonomy).
Ateuchosaurus are small, secretive skinks of humid East and Southeast Asian forest floors. They move through leaf litter and loose soil, taking small invertebrates and sheltering beneath cover. Their reduced limbs, smooth overlapping scales and concealed habits suit a terrestrial lifestyle. Species-level habitat and reproduction remain incompletely reported, so this account uses conservative genus-level ecology rather than invented local measurements (general Ateuchosaurus ecology; Reptile Database).
