Acanthosaura murphyi is a Vietnamese horned agama described in 2018 after specimens formerly identified as A. capra were shown to be distinct. It is olive, brown or dark grey and can change shade with condition. Published summaries give a body length of about 10–13 cm, a tail of 16–20 cm and weight up to roughly 100 g. The species name honours herpetologist Robert Murphy (Nguyen et al. 2018; Wikipedia).

The species is known from central and south-central Vietnam, including Hon Ba Nature Reserve in Khanh Hoa and Ca Forest in Phu Yen. Surveys found it in evergreen forest across approximately 84–1,060 metres. It is a diurnal, climbing ambush predator that takes invertebrates, following the basic ecology of other Acanthosaura. Because it was only recently separated from the mountain horned dragon, older locality records may require re-examination before being assigned confidently (Asian Turtle Program; original species description).
