Himalayan forests of northern India and the north-eastern states, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and east to Indochina
The whiskered yuhina is a bird of the white-eye family Zosteropidae. Its range extends across the Himalayan forests in northern India to the north-eastern Indian states, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh, and east to Indochina including Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, in subtropical or tropical moist montane forest. It is described as one of the commonest yuhinas in the Himalaya, though relatively uncommon to rare at low elevations (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is sometimes found in mixed hunting parties with other yuhinas and fulvettas, though it has been reported not to associate with such parties in some areas, and it prefers relatively undisturbed closed canopy. It is one of several birds hunted by livestock herders in north-east India. SoIB 2023 rates it a Low conservation priority, a resident and altitudinal migrant forest bird with a Moderate range of about 142,000 km² and an inconclusive long-term trend of about +53% (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
