Platysternon peguense
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Recorded from Vietnam; see species account for evidence limits
Platysternon peguense (Platysternon peguense) is a reptile recorded for Vietnam in the project inventory. Its supporting occurrence note is “Expert range list”. The accepted scientific name is retained because regional taxonomy and species boundaries can change, while similar-looking taxa may require detailed morphology or genetic evidence for reliable separation. This profile therefore distinguishes the recorded identity and occurrence from broader biological context instead of inventing unsupported locality, size, diet or breeding details (project species data; Reptile Database taxonomy).
Platysternon big-headed turtles have enlarged heads that cannot be withdrawn fully into the shell and long, muscular tails used while climbing around rocky streams. They occupy cool, flowing forest waterways and take aquatic invertebrates and other small prey. Their specialized build differs from typical pond turtles. These are genus-level characteristics rather than observations at a Vietnamese locality, so exact size, elevation, diet and clutch figures are not inferred (general Platysternon account; Reptile Database).
