The blossom-headed parakeet, or rosy-headed parakeet, is a lime-green parrot 30 cm long with a tail up to 18 cm, weighing 85–90 g on average. The male's head, cheeks and ears are pink, becoming pale blue towards the back of the crown and nape, with a narrow black neck collar and black chin stripe and a reddish-brown shoulder spot. The long central tail feathers are blue tipped with pale yellow, the eyes pale yellow, and juveniles have grey eyes (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is a non-migratory resident breeder from eastern Bangladesh, Bhutan, north-east India and Nepal eastwards into Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and China, in light forest and cultivated areas at around 1,500 m. It nests in tree holes, laying four or five white eggs, and makes local movements driven by the availability of the fruit and blossoms that make up its diet. SoIB 2023 rates it a Moderate conservation priority, with a Restricted range of about 22,700 km² and insufficient data on trends (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
