Phylloscopus maculipennis
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Diet
Small insects and other invertebrates
Habitat
Temperate and moist subtropical forest, chiefly in Asian highlands
Range
Himalayas, northeastern India and Yunnan to northern Indochina
The ashy-throated warbler is a very small, restless leaf warbler with green upperparts, a yellow rump, pale wing bars and a contrasting ashy-grey throat. A patterned crown and pale eyebrow add to its bright head pattern, while white-edged outer tail feathers can flash when the tail spreads. It usually keeps high in trees, gleaning tiny prey and sometimes hovering briefly beside foliage (BTO identification guide; EverydayEarth species account).
Its range extends along the Himalayas through northeastern India and Yunnan into northern Indochina, including Vietnam. The species inhabits temperate forest and moist subtropical forest, especially in mountain regions; some populations descend into lower valleys outside the breeding season. It takes small insects and other invertebrates from leaves and fine branches and frequently participates in mixed-species foraging flocks, where its constant motion and yellow rump can aid detection (Wikipedia; EverydayEarth species account).
