The Dalat bush warbler is a secretive Locustella with plain brown plumage, a white throat and a weak eye-ring. It is much more easily heard than seen: males repeat a buzzy, rhythmic phrase from within dense grass or shrubbery and usually allow only fleeting views. Its subdued pattern is typical of cover-dwelling bush warblers, making voice and the restricted Vietnamese range central to confident field identification (eBird species account).
This range-restricted bird is confined to the Kon Tum and Da Lat plateaus of Vietnam's central highlands, where it occupies tangled grass and shrub cover. It searches within dense vegetation for small invertebrates and seldom ventures into the open. The taxon was formerly treated as a subspecies of Russet Bush Warbler, and some authorities still use a broader species concept; current IOC and eBird treatments recognise Locustella idonea as the Dalat Bush Warbler (Avibase; Wikipedia).
