Phylloscopus plumbeitarsus
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Diet
Small insects and other invertebrates
Habitat
Taiga and mixed forest when breeding; deciduous and secondary forest, scrub and bamboo in winter
Range
Breeds southern Siberia to Mongolia and Manchuria; winters in Southeast Asia
The two-barred warbler is a greenish leaf warbler with pale underparts and two wing bars. Compared with Greenish Warbler it is usually darker green above, has a broader, longer greater-covert bar and a more distinct median-covert bar, and shows little yellow below. It exceeds Yellow-browed Warbler in size and has a longer tail, pale lower mandible and plain tertials without strong pale tips (BirdForum Opus).
It breeds from southern Siberia through Mongolia to Manchuria, then migrates to Southeast Asia for winter. Breeding birds inhabit taiga and mixed forest; wintering birds use deciduous and secondary forest, scrub and bamboo, recorded to about 1,300 metres. Individuals forage singly, in pairs or with mixed flocks, moving through foliage to take small insects and other invertebrates. Range, season and especially voice help resolve confusing views among similar leaf warblers (BirdForum Opus).
