Temminck's tragopan is a stocky pheasant about 64 cm long. The male is brilliant red-orange, densely spotted with white, with black facial markings and pink legs; during display he erects blue horn-like wattles and expands a dark-blue throat lappet patterned in red. The female is mottled brown with white spots and blue bare skin around the eye, giving excellent camouflage among mountain forest leaf litter (Wikipedia, general species account).
Its range follows mountains from north-eastern India through northern Myanmar and central China to north-western Tonkin in Vietnam. It occupies montane evergreen and mixed forest with dense undergrowth, feeding on berries, leaves, shoots and other plant material on the ground and in low branches. General species accounts describe nests placed above ground in trees or shrubs, often using old nests of other birds, with clutches usually of three to five eggs (Wikipedia, general species account).
