Trochalopteron melanostigma

The silver-eared laughingthrush (Trochalopteron melanostigma) is a species of bird in the family Leiothrichidae. It is found in southern Yunnan, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. It was formerly considered a subspecies of the chestnut-crowned laughingthrush, G. erythrocephalus. Trochalopteron melanostigma is the scientific name used by the project species list. The description here uses general species-wide information and does not imply that every trait has been documented separately in Vietnam. (Wikipedia, general species account).

Like many crows, this species is an adaptable, intelligent forager with a broad diet and strong bill. Crows commonly search on the ground as well as in trees, taking invertebrates, plant material and other available foods, and build substantial stick nests. Local habits should be interpreted from the species-level account above rather than assumed from the family alone (general Corvidae ecology).
