The shikra, also called the little banded goshawk, is a small bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, widely distributed in Asia and Africa. The African forms may represent a separate species but have usually been treated as subspecies. It is very similar in appearance and, to some degree, behaviour to other small hawks such as the Chinese sparrowhawk, the Eurasian goshawk and the Eurasian sparrowhawk (Wikipedia, general species account).
