Crocodylus porosus
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Recorded from Vietnam; see species account for evidence limits
Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) is a reptile recorded for Vietnam in the project inventory. Its supporting occurrence note is “Expert range list”. The accepted scientific name is retained because regional taxonomy and species boundaries can change, while similar-looking taxa may require detailed morphology or genetic evidence for reliable separation. This profile therefore distinguishes the recorded identity and occurrence from broader biological context instead of inventing unsupported locality, size, diet or breeding details (project species data; Reptile Database taxonomy).
Crocodilians are large semi-aquatic predators with powerful tails, armored skin and eyes and nostrils positioned high on the head. They hunt from water and shore, taking prey appropriate to their size, and females lay eggs in guarded nests. Habitat tolerance and adult dimensions differ strongly between species, and large individuals are dangerous wildlife. These are broad crocodilian traits rather than Vietnam-specific observations of this record, so exact size, prey, habitat and clutch values are omitted (general crocodilian biology; Reptile Database).
