Oreocryptophis porphyraceus
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Recorded from Vietnam; see species account for evidence limits
Red Bamboo Rat Snake (Oreocryptophis porphyraceus) is a snake recorded for Vietnam in the project inventory. Its supporting occurrence note is “GBIF: 22 Vietnam records”. The accepted scientific name is retained because regional snake taxonomy and species boundaries can change, while similar-looking species may require scale counts, anatomy or genetic evidence for reliable separation. This profile therefore distinguishes the recorded identity and occurrence from broader biological context instead of inventing unsupported locality, size, diet or breeding details (project species data; Reptile Database taxonomy).
Oreocryptophis is a nonvenomous rat-snake lineage associated broadly with cool forests, mountain slopes and dense ground cover. It hunts small vertebrates and uses constriction, while the strongly patterned body can vary with age and geography. The snake may remain concealed beneath litter, logs or stones. These are general genus-level notes rather than observations from Vietnam, so exact elevation, measurements, prey, habitat and clutch values are not inferred (general Oreocryptophis account; Reptile Database).
