Protobothrops maolanensis

Recorded from Vietnam; see species account for evidence limits
Protobothrops maolanensis (Protobothrops maolanensis) is a snake recorded for Vietnam in the project inventory. Its supporting occurrence note is “Expert range list”. The accepted scientific name is retained because regional snake taxonomy and species boundaries can change, while similar-looking species may require scale counts, anatomy or genetic evidence for reliable separation. This profile therefore distinguishes the recorded identity and occurrence from broader biological context instead of inventing unsupported locality, size, diet or breeding details (project species data; Reptile Database taxonomy).
Protobothrops are Asian pit vipers whose facial heat-sensing pits, folding front fangs and venom support ambush predation on vertebrate prey. Members range from largely terrestrial forest snakes to forms that also climb low vegetation, and several have strongly keeled scales or distinctive head markings. All should be treated as medically significant and left undisturbed. These are genus-level notes, not species-specific Vietnamese field data; precise habitat, size, prey and breeding information is therefore omitted (general Protobothrops account; Reptile Database).
