Phylloscopus ogilviegranti
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Diet
Small invertebrates
Habitat
Moist lowland and montane forest, especially mountain forest
Range
Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam
Kloss's leaf warbler is a small, brightly marked leaf warbler with green upperparts, whitish underparts, a yolk-yellow eyebrow and crown stripe, and a pale-yellow vent. Two strong yellow wing bars and a short, rather stubby bill reinforce the pattern. One useful behavioural clue is its tendency to flick both wings simultaneously while moving actively through foliage, though voice remains important among similar Asian leaf warblers (eBird species account).
The species occurs in Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, occupying moist lowland and especially montane forest. Populations associated with mountain forests may shift to lower elevations outside the breeding season. Like other Phylloscopus warblers, it searches leaves, twigs and outer branches for small invertebrates, sometimes joining mixed-species feeding flocks. It was separated from Davison's Leaf Warbler after molecular and vocal studies clarified the complex (Wikipedia, general species account; BTO).
