Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Habitat
Primary and secondary forest; nests in bamboo
Range
North-eastern India, southern China and Southeast Asia
The pencil-tailed tree mouse is an arboreal rodent, locally abundant but patchily distributed, found in primary and secondary forests with no preference for particular forest types. It occurs in north-eastern India, southern China including Hainan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia and Indonesia (Wikipedia, general species account).
Like all members of its genus it builds its nest between stalks of bamboo, making a bundle of leaves and branches between the stalks and gnawing through part of the bamboo so it can enter. The mice are sociable and may share nests with others. The cached account gives no measurements, diet or breeding information.
