Niviventer bukit
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Mountain regions of central Vietnam and Laos, and plains across much of Indochina; also Thailand and the Malay Peninsula (type locality Bukit Besar, 762 m)
The Bukit white-bellied rat, Niviventer bukit, was described from Bukit Besar near Jalor on the Malay Peninsula at about 762 m. It was long treated as a form of the Indochinese white-bellied rat, and a Vietnamese revision confirmed it as a full species. It is recorded from mountain regions of central Vietnam and Laos and from much of the plains of southern Vietnam, Cambodia and part of Thailand (Mammal Diversity Database; Balakirev et al.).
It occurs alongside the South China white-bellied rat and the Langbian white-bellied rat. No description, diet or breeding information was found in the sources used, so this is a short entry.
