The greater bandicoot rat, or Indian bandicoot rat, grows to about 30 to 45 cm without the tail, which can reach 28 cm. It lives around human dwellings, in compounds and gardens and near rubbish bins (Wikipedia, general species account).
Litters are large, 8 to 14 pups, and a female may have 8 to 10 litters in a lifespan of about a year, maturing at 50 to 60 days. It is found in South and Southeast Asia, including Vietnam. Not to be confused with the marsupial bandicoots of Australia and New Guinea.
