The freckle-breasted woodpecker is a medium-sized pied woodpecker. The upperparts are black with heavy white barring, the undertail is red, and the breast and belly are buff with light flank barring and slight side streaking. The cheeks are whitish and partly bordered by a black line, and the crown is red in the male, with an orange forehead, and black in the female (Wikipedia, general species account).

The cached account lists it in Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, and does not name India, though the Indian species list includes it, so its occurrence in India should be checked. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry, moist lowland and moist montane forest. It was formerly treated as the same species as the fulvous-breasted woodpecker. SoIB 2023 lists it as a resident of island forest and plantation that eats invertebrates, without a priority category (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
