Melogale cucphuongensis

Basic stats

Habitat

Degraded lowland evergreen forest fringe on limestone

Range

Cuc Phuong National Park, Ninh Binh Province, northern Vietnam

The Vietnam ferret-badger, listed here as the Cuc Phuong ferret-badger, is a member of the weasel family native to Vietnam. It was described in 2011 and is known from only two specimens (Wikipedia, general species account).

Both specimens come from Cuc Phuong National Park in Ninh Binh Province: one from a compound of buildings on the fringe of degraded lowland evergreen forest and the other from a location near it. It is not known whether this site is representative of the species' habitat. The site is on limestone, which has given rise to speculation that the species may depend on karst habitat, as do other animals in the region.
