Geoemyda spengleri
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Recorded from Vietnam; see species account for evidence limits
Black-breasted Leaf Turtle (Geoemyda spengleri) is a reptile recorded for Vietnam in the project inventory. Its supporting occurrence note is “Expert range list”. The accepted scientific name is retained because regional taxonomy and species boundaries can change, while similar-looking taxa may require detailed morphology or genetic evidence for reliable separation. This profile therefore distinguishes the recorded identity and occurrence from broader biological context instead of inventing unsupported locality, size, diet or breeding details (project species data; Reptile Database taxonomy).
Geoemyda are small terrestrial forest turtles that move through humid leaf litter and dense ground cover. Their keeled shells and subdued colours provide camouflage, while the diet includes fallen fruit and small invertebrate prey. They are more land-oriented than many Asian pond turtles, although moisture remains important. These are genus-level notes rather than Vietnamese field observations of this species, so exact size, habitat, diet and clutch information is omitted (general Geoemyda account; Reptile Database).
