Laticauda colubrina
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Recorded from Vietnam; see species account for evidence limits
Yellow-lipped Sea Krait (Laticauda colubrina) is a snake recorded for Vietnam in the project inventory. Its supporting occurrence note is “Expert range list”. The accepted scientific name is retained because regional snake taxonomy and species boundaries can change, while similar-looking species may require scale counts, anatomy or genetic evidence for reliable separation. This profile therefore distinguishes the recorded identity and occurrence from broader biological context instead of inventing unsupported locality, size, diet or breeding details (project species data; Reptile Database taxonomy).
Laticauda sea kraits are amphibious elapids that forage underwater but regularly come ashore to rest, digest food, shed and lay eggs. Their laterally flattened tails aid swimming, while broad belly scales retain useful movement on land. They mainly pursue elongate fishes among reefs and rocky coastal habitat. Sea kraits are venomous and should not be handled. These are genus-level notes rather than Vietnam-specific observations of this record; exact measurements, prey and clutch data are omitted (general Laticauda account; Reptile Database).
