The white-throated fantail is a small bird about 19cm long, with a dark fan-shaped tail edged in white, a white eyebrow and throat. Most races resemble the Himalayan form, primarily slate grey above and below with a black eye mask. It is insectivorous and often fans its tail as it moves through undergrowth, and is found in forest, scrub and cultivation (Wikipedia, general species account).
It lays three eggs in a small cup nest in a tree, white with a band of brown spots round the middle. Birds use the same song year after year with small changes, so that after four or five years it sounds very different. The male's call is useful for telling it from the white-browed fantail where their ranges overlap. The account opened does not name Bhutan.
