The white-capped, or white-capped water, redstart is a passerine of the Old World flycatcher family. Both sexes are black with red underparts and a white crown; males have a larger white pattern on the top of the head and brown or red spots under the wings. It was formerly placed in the monotypic genus Chaimarrornis but was moved to Phoenicurus based on a molecular phylogenetic study published in 2010 (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is found across Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tibet and Vietnam, in temperate forest. The cached account gives no measurements, diet or breeding information. SoIB 2023 rates it a Moderate conservation priority, a resident and within-India migrant of non-specialised habitat with a Moderate range of about 194,000 km² and a current decline of about 3.4% a year (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
