The white-browed piculet is a small piculet up to 10cm long, with olive-green upperparts tinged with chestnut, cinnamon or rufous underparts and a stubby blackish tail. The crown is green with a white streak above and behind the eye, ringed by bare pinkish or reddish skin. Males have a small golden-yellow patch on the forehead that females lack (Wikipedia, general species account).
Its range extends from northern India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh through southern China to Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand, at altitudes up to 2,600m. It forages in the understory not far above the ground, pecking and probing for small insects, bark beetles, ants, termites and spiders, often in pairs or mixed flocks. It uses pieces of bamboo to make its nest, breeding between March and July.
