Pterorhinus sannio
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
The white-browed laughingthrush (Pterorhinus sannio) is a bird in the family Leiothrichidae. The species was first described by Robert Swinhoe in 1867. It is found in China, Hong Kong, India, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. This species was formerly placed in the genus Garrulax but following the publication of a comprehensive molecular phylogenetic study in 2018, it was moved to the resurrected genus Pterorhinus. (Wikipedia, general species account).
Babblers and their close allies are typically active passerines of forest, scrub or dense undergrowth. Many move in pairs, family parties or mixed-species flocks while searching foliage, bark and leaf litter for invertebrates, sometimes supplementing them with fruit or seeds. Voice and social behaviour are often valuable identification clues. These statements provide family-level context and are not Vietnam-specific breeding measurements (general babbler ecology).
