Emberiza tristrami

Tristram's bunting (Emberiza tristrami) is a bird in the family Emberizidae. The species was first described by Robert Swinhoe in 1870. It breeds in eastern Manchuria and the Russian Far East and winters in central and southern China. It is accidental in Japan, Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Russia, Mongolia, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and north-eastern India. Its natural habitat is boreal forests. (Wikipedia, general species account).

Finches and estrildid finches are predominantly seed-eating passerines with bills adapted for husking or crushing plant material, although many also take small invertebrates, especially when feeding young. They often forage socially and may track seeding grasses or trees. These are broad family-level traits rather than Vietnam-specific breeding data (general finch and estrildid ecology). Regional observations can refine these broad expectations.
