Oriolus tenuirostris
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Diet
Fruit, berries, insects and caterpillars
Habitat
Moist lowland and montane broadleaved and mixed forest
Range
Eastern Himalayas through northeastern India, Myanmar and southern China to northern Indochina
The slender-billed oriole is a bright yellow forest oriole with a relatively fine, pointed bill. Adults have yellow head and body plumage, contrasting black wings and tail and a dark line through the eye. Males are more vividly coloured, while females and young birds are greener and less sharply patterned. Its narrower bill and forest association help separate it from broader-billed orioles occurring in more open country (Wikipedia, general species account; BirdLookUp species synopsis).
The range extends from the eastern Himalayas through northeastern India, Myanmar and southern China to northern Indochina. It occupies moist lowland and montane forest, including mixed broadleaved and coniferous woodland, and generally remains in the upper canopy. Fruit and berries form an important part of the diet, supplemented by insects and caterpillars. Birds are usually encountered alone or in pairs and may make local elevational movements as seasonal food supplies change (BirdLookUp species synopsis; Wikipedia, general species account).
