Liocichla ripponi
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
The scarlet-faced liocichla (Liocichla ripponi) is a bird in the family Leiothrichidae. The species was recently reclassified as separate from the red-faced liocichla, although some taxonomists consider it to be conspecific. It is found in Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and southern China. Liocichla ripponi is the scientific name used in the project list. This account uses species-wide information and does not imply that every trait has been documented separately in Vietnam. (Wikipedia, general species account).
Babblers and their close allies are generally active passerines of forest, scrub or undergrowth. Many travel in pairs, family parties or mixed-species flocks while searching foliage, bark and leaf litter for invertebrates, sometimes adding fruit or seeds. Voice and social behaviour are often useful identification clues. These are family-level notes rather than Vietnam-specific breeding measurements (general babbler ecology). Regional observations can refine these broad expectations.
