The Oriental serotine, Eptesicus pachyomus (listed here as Cnephaeus pachyomus), was formerly treated as a subspecies of the serotine, Eptesicus serotinus, its probable closest relative. A 2013 study found significant genetic divergence and raised it to species rank. It has four subspecies (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is widespread across Asia, from Iran and Pakistan through India to China, Taiwan and Southeast Asia including Vietnam, in habitats from semi-desert and steppe to tropical forest. It roosts in shaded places such as cracks in rocks and buildings, and occasionally in the entrance of caves, usually alone or in small groups, and feeds on butterflies and moths.
