Mogera latouchei
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Eastern China and parts of northern Vietnam
La Touche's mole is a species of mole in the family Talpidae found in eastern China and parts of northern Vietnam. It is named after the Irish naturalist John David Digues La Touche (Wikipedia, general species account).
It was formerly considered a subspecies of the insular mole of Hainan Island and eastern Taiwan, but a 2007 genetic analysis found the two to be distinct. Diagnostic characteristics are its small size, dark fur and wide auditory opening in the skull, the latter distinct from any other Mogera species.
