Saxicola jerdoni
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Jerdon's bush chat (Saxicola jerdoni) is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. The common name commemorates the surgeon-naturalist Thomas C. Jerdon. Distribution The Jerdon's bush chat is native to Bangladesh, China, India, Laos, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam. It is possibly extinct in Myanmar. Shuklaphanta National Park in Nepal represents the western limit of its distribution. Saxicola jerdoni is the scientific name used in the project list. (Wikipedia, general species account).
Old World flycatchers typically watch from a perch, taking insects in short aerial sallies or gleaning prey from foliage and the ground. Many Asian species show strong differences between male and female plumage, while migrants may use different habitats seasonally. These are family-level ecological notes; the species account above remains the basis for identification and distribution (general Muscicapidae ecology). Regional observations can refine these broad expectations.
