The Javan pond heron is a wading bird of the heron family found in shallow fresh and salt-water wetlands in Southeast Asia. It is typically 45 cm long, with white wings, a yellow bill with a black tip, and yellow eyes and legs. In the breeding season it is orange, slaty and white, and out of the breeding season brown and flecked with white; the non-breeding plumage is virtually indistinguishable in the field from that of the Chinese and Indian pond herons (Wikipedia, general species account).
Its diet is insects, fish and crabs, and it breeds from June to September.
