The Indochinese cuckooshrike is a medium-sized, rather slender canopy bird 21–23 cm long and weighing about 36 g. Its overall grey plumage, darker wings and tail, pale underparts and slightly hooked bill give it the subdued appearance typical of many cuckooshrikes. Males are more evenly grey, while females appear browner and less uniform. The bird's long wings and deliberate posture help distinguish it from smaller trillers and minivets (Oiseaux.net species account).
Restricted to Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, it is a resident of moist lowland and montane forest, open woodland, secondary growth and well-treed urban areas. Most records fall between roughly 300 and 1,500 m, although its wider elevational range begins near lowland level. Birds glean invertebrates from leaves and branches in the canopy and rarely descend to the ground. Compiled breeding data indicate a clutch of two or three eggs (BirdLife species factsheet; Oiseaux.net species data).
