The green shrike-babbler was earlier placed in the family Timaliidae. The male has a grey head with a blackish crown, olive-green on the back, a pale ashy-grey throat and breast and a yellow belly; the female is slightly duller than the male and has a greyish crown. It is found in Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Vietnam, and in India in Darjeeling, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh (Wikipedia, general species account).
The diet consists of insects such as ants and beetles as well as berries and seeds. The breeding season is mainly May and June, and the nests are usually found about three to eight metres above the ground. SoIB 2023 rates it a Low conservation priority, a resident forest bird that eats invertebrates, with a Moderate range of about 51,900 km² and insufficient data on the long-term trend (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
