Enhydris subtaeniata
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Recorded from Vietnam; see species account for evidence limits
Enhydris subtaeniata (Enhydris subtaeniata) is a snake recorded for Vietnam in the project inventory. Its supporting occurrence note is “Expert range list”. The accepted scientific name is retained because regional snake taxonomy and species boundaries can change, while similar-looking species may require scale counts, anatomy or genetic evidence for reliable separation. This profile therefore distinguishes the recorded identity and occurrence from broader biological context instead of inventing unsupported locality, size, diet or breeding details (project species data; Reptile Database taxonomy).
Enhydris water snakes are aquatic homalopsids associated broadly with freshwater wetlands, slow channels, ponds and flooded agricultural landscapes. They hunt fishes, frogs and other aquatic prey and bear live young rather than laying eggs. Their eyes and nostrils are positioned for life near the water surface, while smooth scales aid swimming. These are genus-level notes rather than documented observations of this particular Vietnamese record, so exact diet, habitat, size and litter figures are not inferred (general Enhydris account; Reptile Database).
