Lyroderma sinense
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia (possibly Myanmar)
The eastern greater false-vampire, Lyroderma sinense, was described in 1907 as Eucheira sinensis from Amoy (Xiamen) in Fujian, China. It was long treated as a subspecies of the greater false vampire bat, and was raised to a separate species on skull and baculum form and mitochondrial DNA by Feng and colleagues in 2024 (Contributions to Zoology 2024). The Southeast Asian form is slightly larger than the nominate one (Csorba and Topal 1994).
The first Vietnamese record was published by Csorba and Topal in 1994, from Hang Neo (Anchor Cave) near Duom in Bac Thai province, at 110 m. No habitat, diet or measurement detail was found in the sources used, so this is a short entry.
