Python bivittatus
Rare visitor: recorded only occasionally in this country
Range
Recorded from Vietnam; see species account for evidence limits
Burmese Python (Python bivittatus) is a snake recorded for Vietnam in the project inventory. Its supporting occurrence note is “Expert range list”. The accepted scientific name is retained because regional snake taxonomy and species boundaries can change, while similar-looking species may require scale counts, anatomy or genetic evidence for reliable separation. This profile therefore distinguishes the recorded identity and occurrence from broader biological context instead of inventing unsupported locality, size, diet or breeding details (project species data; Reptile Database taxonomy).
Python species are heavy-bodied, nonvenomous constrictors that locate vertebrate prey using chemical cues and heat-sensitive pits around the lips. They seize prey with recurved teeth and subdue it by constriction; females lay eggs and coil around them during incubation. Habitat, adult size and prey differ greatly among species. These are genus-level characteristics rather than Vietnam-specific observations of this record, so exact measurements, diet, habitat and clutch values are omitted (general Python account; Reptile Database).
