The blue-winged leafbird is a leafbird of forest and second growth throughout Southeast Asia, as far east as Borneo and as far south as southern Sumatra. The male is green-bodied with a yellow-tinged head and a black face and throat; the female has a greener head and a blue throat, and young birds are like the female without the blue throat patch. The similar golden-fronted leafbird lacks blue in the flight feathers and tail and has a golden forehead. It previously included Jerdon's leafbird of the Indian subcontinent and the Bornean leafbird as subspecies (Wikipedia, general species account).
As in other leafbirds, its call is a rich mixture of imitations of the calls of other birds. The Javan leafbird was also formerly grouped with the species. SoIB 2023 rates it a Moderate conservation priority, a resident forest and plantation bird with a Restricted range of about 39,300 km² and insufficient data on trends, so the Indian occurrence should be checked, as the cached account describes Southeast Asia (Wikipedia, general species account; SoIB 2023).
