Range

North-east Myanmar, southern China and northern Vietnam (type locality Pouten, Hainan)

Allen's roundleaf bat, Hipposideros poutensis, was described by J. A. Allen in 1906 from Pouten on Hainan. It was long treated as a subspecies of Horsfield's roundleaf bat and is now usually kept as a separate species, although the limits between it, the great roundleaf bat and Horsfield's roundleaf bat are still unsettled (Mammal Diversity Database).

In Vietnam it has been photographed on Cat Ba Island, recorded among six roundleaf bat species in Son La and Lang Son provinces in 2025, and found at Xuan Nha Nature Reserve in Son La. The 2025 survey noted it is distinct in form and echolocation calls. No measurements were found in the sources used (Biodiversity Data Journal 2025).
